Khanh Hoa and Hiroshima Collaborate to Develop the Pearl Industry

admin

During a working session between Khánh Hòa Province and Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan on March 19, leaders from both regions discussed plans for collaboration in key industries, including pearl farming in Vietnam.

Distinguished artisan Hồ Thanh Tuấn (wearing a cream vest), representing Hoàng Gia Pearl, signed a cooperation agreement with representatives from Tanabe Pearl Farm (wearing a gray vest), witnessed by Nguyễn Tấn Tuân – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of Khánh Hòa People’s Committee (far right) – and Nakamoto Takashi, Chairman of Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly, Japan (far left).

Khánh Hòa Province, with its rich coastal and island resources, has developed a thriving tourism sector and environmentally friendly pearl farming. The province is home to several leading pearl enterprises and implements supportive policies aimed at establishing Khánh Hòa pearls as a national brand with international export potential.

Japan, on the other hand, is the birthplace of the modern cultured pearl industry. Japanese Akoya pearls are exported worldwide, generating significant economic value. The collaboration between the two countries will enable Vietnamese enterprises to access advanced pearl farming technologies, enhancing both quality and production capacity.

A team of experts from Tanabe Pearl Farm, one of Japan’s leading pearl companies with nearly 80 years of experience, visited Hoàng Gia Pearl’s farming site to inspect pearl stock.

During the meeting, Nguyễn Tấn Tuân and Nakamoto Takashi witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Tanabe Pearl Farm (Mie Prefecture, Japan) and Hoàng Gia Pearl (Khánh Hòa Province, Vietnam). Under this partnership, the two companies will invest in a 100-hectare pearl farming and crafting facility in Vân Phong Bay, Khánh Hòa, scheduled to begin operations in June 2024. The collaboration also includes the development of a pearl-diving tourism experience in Nha Trang, offering visitors a unique opportunity to collect pearls directly from the sea—creating a one-of-a-kind and exclusive tourism attraction in the world, right in Khánh Hòa.

Mr. Tomokazu Tanabe (far left) spent over five years studying the Vietnamese market before deciding to sign a cooperation agreement with Hồ Thanh Tuấn, Chairman of Hoàng Gia Pearl.

The partnership between these two leading companies in the cultured pearl industry—from Japan and Vietnam—is a landmark event for Vietnam’s jewelry and pearl farming sector. It opens new opportunities to enhance Vietnam’s pearl cultivation and craftsmanship capabilities while connecting to global markets.
